ICE, tax ID, trade register and negative certificate explained

The negative certificate concerns name availability. RC refers to the commercial register, IF to tax identification and ICE to an identifier shared across administrations. These items are not interchangeable.

A negative certificate is not incorporation

OMPIC explains that the negative certificate establishes availability of a requested business name for registration. It does not, by itself, prove that the company has been incorporated. Trademark protection is also a separate procedure: a business name and a registered trademark are not the same thing.

ICE connects business information

ICE means Identifiant Commun de l’Entreprise. OMPIC says it complements the commercial-register, tax and CNSS identifiers rather than replacing them. For new legal entities, OMPIC describes assignment when the negative certificate is requested. Holding an ICE therefore does not prove every formation task is finished.

Ask which official document is needed

When someone requests tax information, a register document or an ICE, clarify the exact document required. Use the labels on the official records and check consistency of the name and registered office. A number alone proves neither a filed return nor a paid tax.

Keep records without exposing sensitive information

Retain creation documents with their issuer and date, and flag inconsistencies before copying information into other files. At initial contact with Sociora, describe the missing record or problem only; agree an appropriate transfer method for supporting documents afterwards.
